L‘ Estartit now has a new welcome and parking area at the entrance to the town. An infrastructure that aims to be a welcoming space for people visiting the town, become a meeting point for shared trips and reduce traffic in the centre of L’Estartit.
The parking lot is located on a plot of almost 6,000 square meters that is bordered to the north by the Torroella road, to the west by Carrer de Marcel·lí Audivert and to the south by Carrer del Freu.
It has 95 free spaces for cars, 4 for coaches and 4 for people with reduced mobility. It also has a rest area with public toilets and a rest area. There is also space to park bicycles and a loading and unloading area. The space does not allow the entry or parking of trucks and access for motorhomes is restricted during the day, from 8am to midnight. Therefore, they cannot stay overnight there.
Beyond the parking function, the space aims to be an entrance to L’Estartit with several information panels about the town, its surroundings and the natural park. Panels that have been installed in recent weeks and that will be complemented by two more posters at the entrance and exit of the parking lot, where information will be provided about the services and the operation of this welcome space with deterrent parking. The area also wants to become a meeting point for sustainable mobility, for example shared cars. The intention is that people who come to L’Estartit leave their vehicle in this parking lot and approach the center on foot, by bicycle or by public transport that will be reinforced through the Torroella-Estartit bus and the tourist train. The new welcome space with deterrent parking has already been operating this summer but it is expected to gain relevance in the future. Some services such as bicycle and electric car chargers will be added soon.
The action began last Easter and has cost around 157,000 euros. It is one of the 29 projects planned within the framework of the Torroella de Montgrí-l’Estartit Tourism Sustainability Plan (2021-2023). This project, in particular, is included within the 2.1 Sustainable Mobility action program, in which 665,000 euros are allocated.
