The Torroella de Montgrí City Council has begun work to prepare the beaches of Torroella and L’Estartit for Easter .
Initial emergency cleaning is underway, especially on the Gran beach in l’Estartit, and the municipal brigade is installing showers and the first few meters of wooden walkways. Cala Montgó beach is also being prepared.
As for the lifeguard and surveillance service, it will begin on Thursday, April 14, and will be provided daily until the 18th. It will then be provided on weekends, until June 15, when it will begin to be daily. Visitors who arrive at the Gran beach via Avenida de Grècia will have, this season, a new perspective of the Medes Islands , after the recent demolition of the old Beach Party bar.
This year, the City Council will establish a new action protocol in agreement with the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter to improve and make beach cleaning more sustainable. The councilor for Coastal Management and Beaches, Marc Calvet, explained that „the objective is to reduce cleaning with machinery and increase more selective actions“ and added, „with this we want to be more respectful of the natural system that forms the beach and, at the same time, we will improve the fixation of the sand by reducing its elevation in episodes of wind.“
