The Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit Fringe Festival is now in its tenth edition with 14 free concerts by around fifty artists in emblematic spaces in the municipality.
The Festival, organized by the Joventuts Musicals of Torroella de Montgrí , starts this Saturday, July 15th and will last until Wednesday, July 19th. It is the summer meeting point for the best emerging musical talent. Torroella de Montgrí will host concerts of ancient, classical and contemporary music in spaces such as the Palau Solterra-Fundació Vila Casas, the Casa Galibern-Fundació Mascort, the Plaça de la Vila and the Cine Petit. L’Estartit will be the setting for concerts of jazz, flamenco and original and folk music, which will be held at the tip of Molinet with privileged views of the Medes Islands and with a bar area and ‚food trucks‘.
Pianist Carles Marigó, percussionist David Domínguez and bassist Ismael Alcina are in charge of opening the festival on Saturday 15 with a proposal of sound exploration that fuses classical music, flamenco and roots music. Next, the early music quintet Anacronía will present works by composers Johann Christian Bach and Carl Friedrich Abel; and soprano Aida Gimeno, accompanied by pianist Carlos Sanchís, will offer a sample of Spanish song and French mélodie from the 19th and 20th centuries. On the same Saturday, the Fringe will host a concert by the ensemble of the EEEmerging+ project I Zefirelli, which is doing a musical residency in the municipality until July 17. Other names that will pass through the Fringe are accordionist Marta Cubas, guitarist Ausiàs Parejo, flautist Sofia Salazar, pianist Pablo López, pianist Laura Ballestrino, the Trio Capmany, and the cellists Northern Cellos. On Wednesday 19th, singer and dancer Marc Vilajuana, Miranda Fernández Trio, Jan Domènech Quintet and Paula Peso Quintet will close the Fringe at Passeig del Molinet in an afternoon-evening of concerts.
