This year, the main course of all the proposals is a fish suquet.

This Monday, the seventeenth edition of a campaign was presented that will take place throughout the month of October and is organized by the Estació Nàutica L’Estartit-Illes Medes with the collaboration of the Torroella de Montgrí City Council , the EMD of l’Estartit , and the sponsorship of the IGP Poma de Girona and Celler Castell de Peralada.

The event was held in the Conference Hall of the Decentralized Municipal Entity of l’Estartit, where an exhibition is located on food and the origin of the products we commonly consume as part of the Pirates and Corsairs Fair that was held in l’Estartit two weekends ago.

The restaurateurs participating in the campaign were present; the Mayor of Torroella de Montgrí i l’Estartit, Jordi Colomí ; the president of the EMD of l’Estartit, Francesc Ferrer ; the first vice-president and regional councilor for Economic Promotion and Tourism, Xavier Dilmé and the President of the l’Estartit–Illes Medes Nautical Station, Toni Murray.

This year the seven restaurants that have joined the gastronomic campaign are Picassso in Torroella de Montgrí il ‚Alba, Can Dalfó , Club Nàutic , La Palmera , La Xula and Medes II in l’Estartit.

Menus and parallel activities

All the menus prepared by the restaurateurs have the apple as the protagonist, in the starter, accompaniment and dessert, and as a novelty this year all the menus will have a fish suquet as the main course. In parallel with the menus, two activities have been organized. An apple ’show cooking‘ with pastry chef Josep Brugués and chef Toni Cabrera and an apple dessert competition. The first of the events has been scheduled for Saturday 8 at 11am in the Plaça de l’Església in l’Estartit, and the second on Saturday 15 October at 6pm in the Plaça de la Vila in Torroella de Montgrí.

An effort that allows us to gain prestige and added value

The President of the EMD, Francesc Ferrer , thanked the “effort” of the restaurant industry to participate in an initiative like this at a time when the summer season is over. A fact that, according to the Regional Councilor for Economic Promotion Xavier Dilmé , shows that “Torroella and l’Estartit are moving and active”, becoming “a pillar in the tourist offer of the region”. For his part, the Mayor of Torroella de Montgrí, Jordi Colomí, stated that conferences like these allow “to gain prestige and strengthen the economy linked to gastronomy”. He highlighted the fact that promoting local products such as apples or fish gives “added value” to the territory.

An opportunity to visit Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit

The Apple in the Kitchen Gastronomic Conference aims to be a recognition of the apple, a fruit deeply rooted in Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit. It should also be taken into account that at this time of year the apple is in full harvest and, therefore, at its best time to taste it. On the other hand, the conference offers an excellent opportunity to get closer to Torroella and l’Estartit and enjoy its wide range of cultural and leisure services, especially linked to active tourism, nature and culture.
