Montgrí Aigua , responsible for the supply of drinking water to Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit , has initiated a communication campaign aimed at the municipality’s tourist establishments, in order to facilitate their task of informing their customers about the drought situation and local water supply problems.
The water saving campaign aimed at the tourism sector „Take back memories, not water“ has been designed by the Catalan Water Agency and the council has personalized it with the Montgrí Aigua logo and copies of all communication materials have been printed to send to tourist establishments.
The communication kits that will be sent from the Tourism Area include A3 posters, Catalan/English information leaflets, Spanish/French information leaflets, tabletop displays for receptions or rooms and stickers. This material will be sent to hotels, campsites, real estate and tourist apartment agencies, rural tourism houses, motorhome areas and summer camp houses in the municipality.
All communication material can also be downloaded from the Montgrí Aigua website, and more printed copies can be requested from the Tourist Office , in case tourist establishments need it. The “Take back memories, not water” campaign was created and disseminated by the Catalan Water Agency, Eurecat and the Catalan Water Partnership (CWP), within the framework of the Life Wat’saveruse project, promoted within the framework of the Euroregion (Catalonia, Balearic Islands and Occitania) to encourage water saving by tourists who visit us. In addition to the paper communication material, which the Torroella de Montgrí City Council has invested in printing, there is a website where you can find more information about the campaign.
The campaign is available in four languages (Catalan, Spanish, English and French), is very visual and offers direct messages to encourage water saving among tourists, explaining the water reality of Catalonia, with Mediterranean rivers that have a low and insufficient flow, etc. The Mayor of Torroella de Montgrí and direct manager of Montgrí Aigua, Jordi Colomí, highlighted that „We hope that, in such a difficult year due to the drought in our country, the whole of society will get involved in the main challenges we have set. These challenges are summarized in making good use of water and following all the recommendations of public administrations so that this water saving is as effective as possible. From the City Council we are putting all the measures and decisions at our disposal so that this problem is minimized as much as possible.“ The councilor for the tourist destination, Dúnia Oliveras, stated that „The tourism sector in our municipality is very relevant and therefore it is vitally important that we facilitate their work while also transferring the problem of the drought to their clients“, and added „We are convinced that our business community is fully aware and that they will adopt the necessary water saving measures, from the very beginning.“
