Telematic meeting of the Smart Tourist Destinations Network
Torroella de Montgrí has joined the Smart Tourist Destinations Network . A network made up of 483 town halls, supramunicipal entities, tourist consortia and companies from all over Spain that aims to guarantee the sustainable development of a tourist area while improving the quality of life of the people who live there and the experience of those who visit it.
Torroella is part of a hundred new members that the entity’s Executive Committee approved alongside municipalities such as Sant Feliu de Guíxols , Sitges , Lleida and the Urgell Regional Council, to name a few of the other Catalan additions.
The Smart Tourist Destinations project has been running for three years and is managed by the State Mercantile Society for the Management of Tourism Innovation and Technologies ( SEGITTUR)), which depends on the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism .
The network publishes manuals and guides to good practices within the tourism framework, advises on digitalization and tourism promotion, sets up working groups on specific topics and common problems and offers training to people managing tourist destinations.
By joining the Network, Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit will work to better exploit their tourism resources , identify new ones and improve the efficiency of production and marketing processes. All with the aim of improving the quality of the experience of visitors and the quality of life of the municipality’s residents. The first step will be to carry out a diagnosis of the current state of the destination. A transversal diagnosis in different areas of the city council and which will analyze five axes that impact the tourist destination such as governance, ecology, sustainability, accessibility and innovation. Axes in which the tourist destination is already working. Once the diagnosis has been made, a strategic plan will be drawn up to improve the shortcomings that have been detected.
