The Torroella de Montgrí City Council has reinforced the services, facilities and activities on the beaches of the municipality coinciding with the beginning of July and the peak of the high summer season. Since this month, the sports activities of the Active Summer , the Mini Beach Club , the lifeguard service every day have been operating and new facilities have been launched such as children’s games, walkways, protective ropes for the coastal dunes and other elements of urban furniture.
From this month until August 31st, the lifeguard service is daily from 10:30 am to 7 pm on the Gran de l’Estartit and Cala Montgó beaches; and from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Mas Pinell . This will be the daily lifeguard service on all these beaches in the first half of September. After that, the lifeguard service will be on weekends.
In the case of Platja Gran, the lifeguard house has amphibious chairs and crutches to make bathing easier for people with reduced mobility.
To make bathing easier, lifelines and railings have been installed in the Salvament area and next to the Espigó de Garbí . This is the area of the beach reserved for people with reduced mobility.
The lifeguard service began during Easter on Platja Gran on weekends and holidays and is now being expanded and reinforced to coincide with the season of highest beach use. Once the peak season ends, on September 15, it will once again be weekends and holidays on Platja Gran until October 12.
In terms of facilities, this year the beaches of Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit have opened 3 new public toilets and 6 children’s playgrounds in different points of Platja Gran and Cala Montgó.
At the same time, two wooden bicycle racks have been installed on the Ter Vell Beach and the ropes and stakes that separate the sand from the parking lot, mark the paths and protect the coastal dunes have been renewed.
As for the activities, the Active Summer and the Mini Beach Club have started. The sports activities on the beach have arrived consolidating successful bets from previous years but also with new features. Thus, during the months of July and August, Zumba, Water March and Yoga on the beach have been scheduled in different places on the coast of the municipality and as new features also Ultimate Freesbee and Rugby.
Families will be able to enjoy the Mini Beach Club again this year in July and August. It is a play area for children, run by specialized staff and located on the large beach in front of the pine forest park. Its use is free and is aimed at children between 4 and 10 years old. Its opening hours are from 10:30 to 13:30 and from 15 – 18 h.
One service that will not be activated this year, for the time being, is that of the showers and foot baths, since the drought situation that forced them not to be activated at the start of the tourist season for Easter persists. Therefore, showers and foot baths remain closed with signs explaining the serious drought situation that the country is experiencing. This is a similar measure to that taken by other municipalities on the Costa Brava.
