The City Council of Torroella de Montgrí i l’Estartit has participated in the second Inclusive Tourism Conference of Baix Empordà which was held this Wednesday in Santa Cristina d’Aro with the participation of around thirty people from the public and private sectors involved in tourism management.
The objective of the meeting was to raise awareness and sensitize the tourism sector that working towards tourism for all is not only a social responsibility but also positions the Baix Empordà as a tourist destination and improves the quality of service that visitors receive. In fact, Torroella de Montgrí i l’Estartit works on these axes, for example, with accessibility elements on the beaches or devices for blind people in the tourist office.
During the conference, different conferences were held on means to achieve more inclusive tourism. The first of them was on accessibility to websites, given by David Sabaté , founder of TOTHOMweb . Next, there was a discussion about autism and the possibility of including inclusive spaces for people with ASD , by the pedagogue Ariadna Montoya and the psychologist David Encinas of the Viu Autisme organization in Platja d’Aro. After a brief break, the co-director of the Easy Reading Association , Elisabet Serra , delved into how books and documentation should be in terms of language, content and form to be more inclusive.
In the final section of the day, three examples of good practices were presented, such as the ‚Don’t stay home!‘ project of the Barcelona Provincial Council ’s Natural Parks Network, the Casa Santa Elena and the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia in Ullastret .
The Regional Tourism Councillor, Xavier Dilmé , explained that the supramunicipal entity has incorporated cognitive diversity into the Accessibility Table of Baix Empordà and the President, Joan Loureiro , reiterated that the objective of meetings like this is that everyone can enjoy Baix Empordà without any kind of barrier.
