The taverns were the meeting places of the men, where they gathered during their off hours or when the weather prevented them from setting sail.

Among others, there was Marcelino’s tavern, Ca la Gumersilda or the Cafè dels Republicans. The ground floor often contained the tavern and a shop, while the café was on the upper storey. The Cafè d’en Mamet is an example of this distribution. In addition to eating and drinking in the taverns, the patrons could play cards or sing habaneras accompanied by a guitar.
