L’Estartit has received the Viles Marineres label, one of the specialized tourist brands promoted by the Catalan Tourism Agency (ACT). This label aims to bring together coastal municipalities that keep alive the culture linked to the sea and fishing traditions, and that maintain their natural and heritage spaces. Also those that claim local products linked to the sea or that offer unique tourist experiences around this culture. The awarding of the label was made public this morning, during an event held in the assembly hall of Cambrils City Hall, which could be followed live on the ACT’s YouTube channel. The event was chaired by the director general of Tourism, Octavi Bono, who was accompanied by the director of the ACT, David Font.
In the case of L’Estartit, the close relationship that the town has with fishing activity has been highlighted. The first fishermen arrived in the 16th century and from them traditional fishing techniques have been inherited that are still present today. As an added value, a heritage of high landscape value and a determined commitment to sustainable economic development stand out, considering that it is a destination within a Natural Park. The Catalan Tourism Agency has also highlighted the tourism strategy of preserving cultural and natural resources, with actions based on sustainable economic development that have been internationally recognized by leading institutions. In addition, the extensive fine sand beach and the possibility of enjoying the richness of the marine world are highlighted thanks to the marine reserve of the Medes Islands, a paradise for scuba diving and light diving where you can observe the richness of hundreds of species of fish, coral, algae and invertebrates. The mayor of Torroella de Montgrí has been very happy and excited about the award of this distinction, which will allow for greater visibility of the heritage linked to the town’s maritime tradition. Colomí recalls that the birth of l’Estartit is inseparable from fishing and that this legacy is still very much alive and is a key element of its identity. On the other hand, the distinction will be another step in the municipality’s tourism strategy, which is based on the valorization of the natural, cultural and landscape resources of the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter, of which we are part. For his part, the president of the EMD of l’Estartit, Francesc Ferrer, assures that “for a town like l’Estartit, so rooted in the sea, we could not remain on the sidelines of this mark. It is a recognition of the first Estartit residents and those who lived from working at sea. We have been, are and will always be a people with a great bond with the sea. >>More information Dossier candidacy of l’Estartit for the Barris i Viles Marineres brand of the Catalan Tourist Agency
