The lifeguard and beach safety service will start this Thursday at l’Estartit beach, marking the beginning of the tourist season in the destination.
Initially, the service will operate from 11 am to 6 pm until 6 April and will be progressively expanded as the season advances, both in terms of staff and opening hours.
After Easter, the service will continue on weekends and public holidays until 13 June, when it will become a daily service until 15 September. From then on, it will return to weekends and public holidays until 12 October, the planned end of the season.
During July and August, service hours will be extended from 10 am to 7 pm.
The service will initially be available at l’Estartit beach, and from 13 June to 13 September it will also operate daily at Cala Montgó. In July and August, it will also be available at Mas Pinell beach.
At Cala Montgó, the service will run from 10 am to 7 pm in July and August, and from 11 am to 6 pm for the rest of the period. At Mas Pinell, it will operate from 11 am to 6.30 pm.
Lifeguard stations are equipped with adapted facilities to assist people with reduced mobility, including amphibious chairs, crutches and other support equipment.
In July and August, the range of services will be complemented by the Mini Beach Club, open daily from 10 am to 1 pm, with professional staff providing assistance in Catalan, English, French and Spanish.
In recent weeks, intensive work has been carried out to prepare the beaches following a winter marked by several storms that left large amounts of vegetation and trash.
After each episode, extensive cleaning operations were carried out in coordination with the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park, as many of these areas are part of a highly valuable natural environment.
At the same time, beach facilities such as toilets, walkways and playground areas have been prepared, with some elements restored.
Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit offer more than 5 km of fine sandy beaches with shallow waters, including areas of high natural value and nearly untouched spaces. During peak season, these beaches can accommodate an average of 40,000 visitors per day.
