Pete Best , the first drummer of the Beatles, will be the headliner of the 17th edition of the Beatles Weekend festival in L’Estartit, which will be held from July 4 to 9.
Known as the man who set the rhythm for the Beatles, he was part of the group between 1960 and 1962. Born in India, but moved to Liverpool at a young age, his mother, Mona Best, owned the Casbah Club, a meeting place for young people and where the Quarrymen , John Lennon ‘s first group, played before founding The Beatles. They contacted Best to join the trio formed by Lennon himself, George Harrison and Stuart Sutcliffe. In the summer of 1962, Best was replaced by Ringo Starr and the Beatles Weekend headliner embarked on other adventures linked to the world of music. The Pete Best Band will perform on the stage of Plaça del Molinet on Saturday, July 8.
Other groups that will perform at this year’s edition of BW are the Catalans Rubber Soul ; the Les Veus de l’Estartit choir; the Vintage Rock Band , who present their album of covers of Beatles songs; and the Argentine Javier Godoy, Beatlejohn , with his tribute to John Lennon. There will also be two exhibitions, one dedicated to original Beatles memorabilia and another on the Beatles’ connection to classical music. Activities around the Beatles and their music will also include book presentations, guided listenings, documentary screenings and the traditional boat trip to the Medes Islands natural park with live music. The Beatles Weekend is organized by the Entiat Municipal Descentralizzada de l’Estartit with the extraordinary collaboration of the Diputació de Girona , which has allowed the festival to be positioned as one of the benchmarks among Beatlemania in Europe.
