Pirates and Corsairs land in L'Estartit for a weekend full of activities

Pirates and Corsairs Fair (Photo: Pirat's de les Illes Medes)The Pirates and Corsairs of the Medes Islands will return to L’Estartit on Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September at the traditional Pirates and Corsairs Fair organised by the Medes Islands Nautical Station in collaboration with the Torroella de Montgrí City Council and the EMD of L’Estartit . A Fair that recovers some activities that had been lost due to the pandemic, such as the pirate landing.

With the aim of continuing to spread an important part of history, the Fair combines recreational and cultural activities of all kinds and for all types of audiences. The streets will once again be filled with stalls with artisanal and traditional products, entertainment for the little ones, parades, pirate performances, children’s workshops and guided tours of exhibitions, among others.

Landing on the beach

On Friday the 23rd at 9pm the Pirates and Corsairs will return to the Platgeta after a two-year absence due to the pandemic. A landing that will be followed by a Fire Run from Plaça 1 d’Octuber to the Passeig Marítim at the height of the Freu. By Excalibur Teatre and Els Pirat’s de les Medes. The other big crowd event will be the Naval Battle on Saturday at 8pm also at the Platgeta. A battle that will be followed by a parade with the Pirat’s de les Medes, Els Voltors , Els Despertaferros , Els Testaferros de l’Empordà and Costa Brava Djs. The route will be the same as the fire run, from Plaça 1 d’Octuber to the Passeig Marítim at the height of the Freu.

Workshops and family theater

On both Friday and Saturday there is a Story Time at the Mar de Llibres Library in l’Estartit, at 5:30 p.m. and 11 a.m. respectively. The little ones have the Espai del Petit Pirata . A fun and adventurous space where they can ride a pony run by the Mas Paguina equestrian center and do workshops with Activa’t Torroella . All of this will be located in front of the Tourist Office and Plaça de la Llevantina from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the ponies and until 8 p.m. for the workshops. This is scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday there will also be a fish stamping workshop with the Companyia La Sal d’Olot on the Passeig Marítim in front of number 59 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. On Sunday, the family program will feature a concert with the Atrapasomnis at 11:30 am in Plaça 1 d’Octubre and a ‘photocall’ and visit to the Pirate’s Ship of the Medes, Aixa, also in Plaça 1 d’Octubre. Theatrical performances are an important part of the Fair with Excalibur Teatre giving a theatrical visit to L’Estartit Pirata on Saturday and Sunday between 11 am and 1 pm; street entertainment on Saturday at 5 pm in Plaça de l’Església and the show El Secret del Tresor Templar on Saturday at 7 pm in the same square.

Exhibition on the influence of gastronomy on piracy

The history of piracy is as old as trade, this year the Fair’s exhibition will focus on how piracy and trade have influenced local gastronomy. The exhibition will open on Friday at 6pm in the EMD Conference Hall and can be visited on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday morning. Coinciding with the Pirates and Corsairs Fair, visitors will have the option of getting to know the Meda Gran on a guided tour on Saturday and Sunday and also going hiking while listening to stories of pirates from far away on Sunday at 9.30am. These visits require prior booking. In terms of guided tours on Sunday at 10.30am you can also enjoy the visit to L’ Estartit Terra de Pescadors that the Museum of the Mediterranean has been doing all summer.

Blood donation, craft market and music

Throughout the weekend there will also be a craft market and on Saturday night two concerts: One in La Pineda with 2 a la carte and another in the Sala Mariscal with Rockola .

The Fair’s coming-of-age party will close the event

The Pirates and Corsairs Festival will end on Sunday at 6pm with the 18th anniversary party of an event that closes the high summer season in L’Estartit.
