Torroella de Montgrí reaffirms its commitment to the historic Sant Andreu Agricultural, Commercial and Livestock Fair, which this year reaches its 631st edition. Although live animals cannot be included due to health measures to prevent the spread of lumpy skin disease in cattle the Town Council has organised around 50 cultural, recreational and family‑friendly activities to ensure the continuity and festive spirit of one of the municipality’s most emblematic events.
The fair will take place from 28 to 30 November, with early activities starting on Wednesday the 26th. The fairgrounds will once again be located at Espai Ter, the main hub for commercial proposals. As this year’s major novelty, the fair will introduce a 360‑degree immersive room, “Step Into the Farms of the Region”, allowing visitors to experience what it feels like to be inside a farm.
To maintain its traditional family‑oriented atmosphere, the Economic Promotion Department has designed a programme that blends agricultural heritage, local commerce and popular culture.
Espai Ter will be the centre of commercial and recreational activities, while Passeig Catalunya and Passeig Vicenç Bou will host a local produce market, an agricultural machinery exhibition and a used‑vehicle market. Outdoors, visitors will also find an exhibition of historic rural and urban carts from across Catalonia.
The fairgrounds will feature family games, an adventure area with a zipline and climbing wall, storytelling sessions, scientific and environmental workshops, road‑safety activities with bikes, and an emergency‑vehicle display. On Saturday, the Fire Brigade will also offer a practical demonstration.
In the absence of livestock, popular Catalan culture will take centre stage, with festive parades on both Saturday and Sunday.
Music will play a key role throughout the fair, including jazz, soul, rock and pop concerts, a musical vermouth, and a DJ evening on Saturday, followed by country dancing and choral performances on Sunday.
One of the fair’s most distinctive activities is La Fira en el Record (Remember Fair) , a theatrical heritage route in Catalan. This year it will be dedicated to the world of the ‘sardana’, marking the 50th anniversary of Torroella’s designation as the Pubilla City of Catalonia’s National Dance.
The Chapel of Sant Antoni will host the exhibition “The Beauty of Our Landscape”, and throughout the weekend visitors will be able to explore the Museum of the Mediterranean and the exhibitions at the town’s major art spaces: Àtrium, Fundació Vila Casas and Fundació Mascort.
Although the traditional Jordi Muxach Memorial Sheepdog Championship cannot be held this year, the tribute to his legacy will be maintained with a screening of the documentary Ovelles i pastors (Sheeps and shepherds) at Cine Montgrí, on Sunday 30 november.
The Sant Andreu Fair is much more than a fair: it is a gateway to discovering the charm of Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit, a reflection of the area’s identity, commercial vitality and deep connection to its agricultural roots. As the oldest fair of its kind in Catalonia, it keeps tradition alive with an open, modern vision perfectly aligned with family‑friendly, cultural and sustainable tourism.
