Sant Joan in L’Estartit and Torroella de Montgrí: Music, fire and tradition by the Sea

Foguera de Sant JoanL’Estartit and Torroella de Montgrí are all set to celebrate Sant Joan, Catalonia’s iconic summer festivity with a vibrant mix of music, fire shows, and local tradition. From June 20 to 24, the town will host a wide range of activities.

Live Music & Beach Concerts: Ítaca Festival

L’Estartit kicks off the celebration with the Ítaca Festival, featuring three nights of open-air concerts:

  • June 20: Viva Suecia, Carolina Durante, Maria Jaume & Serial Killerz
  • June 21: Oques Grasses, Dan Peralbo i el Comboi & DJ Trapella
  • June 23: Mushka, Figa Flawas, Ouineta & DJ Capde

On June 21 at 10:30 PM, don’t miss the spectacular Flock Drone Art Show lighting up the night sky over the beach. Each concert night will also include music sessions by Cavall de Troia.

The Night of Sant Joan – June 23

Festival  ItacaOn June 23, the highlight of the festival, the Flama del Canigó (Canigó Flame) will arrive at Plaça de la Llevantina at 8 PM, greeted by Retumbagralla and Retumbatuka.

Later, at 10:30 PM on the Platja Gran, the Sant Joan bonfire will be lit, featuring a thrilling fire performance by Els Pirats del Foc, again with live drumming by Retumbatuka.

 Traditional Catalan Culture

On June 24 at 7 PM, Plaça The Beatles in L’Estartit will host a display of Castells (human towers) by the Castellers de Figueres, joined by local giants group Xiscu and Remei.

Meanwhile, in Torroella de Montgrí, the main events will take place on June 23:

  • 7:30 PM: Family show “Un tren de cançons” by Jordi Tonietti at Plaça de la Vila
  • 8:30 PM: Arrival of the Flama del Canigó with musical performance by the Móndeveus choir.

Free Parking & Safety Measures

To ease mobility during the festivity, four free parking areas will be available in L’Estartit:

  • Entrance near Camping Castell Montgrí
  • Entrance near Hotel La Masia
  • Freu Street skate park area
  • Former Ter Vell treatment plant zone

On June 23, parking will be prohibited on Passeig Marítim from 8 AM, and the street will close to traffic from 7 PM to midnight.

A safe fireworks zone has been set up at the Platja Gran car park, close to the bonfire area. In case of emergencies, the DYA medical team will be stationed at Passeig Marítim from 9 PM onwards.

Fire Safety & Pet Advice

During the fire show on June 23, spectators are advised to:

  • Keep a safe distance from performers
  • Wear long cotton clothes and hats to protect from sparks
  • Keep the area clean and dispose of waste properly

When using fireworks:

  • Only buy them from licensed sellers
  • Avoid lighting them near people or flammable areas
  • Never use unauthorized bonfires and always keep a safe distance from buildings or vegetation

If you’re traveling with pets, please be aware that fireworks can cause them stress. Create a quiet, sheltered space indoors and consult your vet if needed.
