The beaches of Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit have sufficient carrying capacity to accommodate all bathers in a regular season, even those on a single day, and at the same time comply with the safety requirements for Covid-19. To adapt to the distancing measures that the health authorities will establish, users will only need to be relocated, but everyone, even in the event of maximum occupancy of the destination, will have the opportunity to enjoy swimming in Torroella and l’Estartit. This is the main conclusion of an exhaustive evaluative study that has been carried out by the municipal area of Coastal Management and Beaches in order to evaluate the carrying capacity and the measures that will need to be adopted once the bathing season starts. The study has been carried out taking into account the carrying capacity of the Gran, La Pletera and Mas Pinell beaches, the largest in the municipality. It has been concluded that in the event of maximum occupancy, each bather would have 5.27 square meters, above the distance limit in which the State works. The calculations have been made taking into account that the beaches of the municipality welcome, in high season, an average of 40,000 daily users. Due to its configuration, the municipality has more than 5 km of fine sand and shallow depth, some of high natural value and practically virgin, very extensive and ideal for the whole family, with a wide range of services. The most outstanding are Cala Montgó, Platja Gran, els Griells, la Pletera, la Gola, Mas Pinell and la Fonollera. To these must be added the small coves that can be reached after an excursion on foot or by boat, along the coast of Montgrí, where you can enjoy the tranquility and practice diving. Minimum restrictions, maximum security measures
Marc Calvet, councilor for Coastal Management and Beaches, argued that the calculation was made based on the accommodation provided by the municipality and the m2 of the beach surface that remains free for people to go there. Once the results are known, the City Council is preparing a device so that everyone can enjoy it with the minimum of restrictions and the maximum of safety measures. To make this possible, Calvet has announced that the temporary staff of civic agents and informants will be reinforced. These will be responsible for evaluating the influx of bathers in each sector and providing information to ensure compliance with health requirements. The strategy will primarily involve redistributing the flow of bathers and providing a lot of information, personally and through signage and its own means. The maximum complicity and understanding of bathers will be sought. In this way, compliance with distancing and health safety measures will be made compatible. At the same time, the City Council will intensify disinfection and cleaning measures. Regarding the surveillance and rescue device, it will initially enter service on June 13. Depending on how the season evolves, maritime rescue or land surveillance tasks will be prioritized.
