The chef and influencer Laura Zurriaga , known on social media as La Croqueta de Xocolata , Jordi Pey from Cuinateca.cat and the Eixarcolant collective will star in the ‘showcookings’ of the Empordà Cuina i Salut Fair which is held on April 26 and 27 in Torroella de Montgrí.
This healthy food fair is now in its tenth edition and is a unique showcase to enjoy local products, the most entertaining ‘ s howcookings’ and talks about a leisurely, sustainable and healthy lifestyle. The Empordà Cuina i Salut Fair aims to assess the health benefits of a conscious, quality and local diet.
The popular singer and ‘showman’ Lo Pau De Ponts will present the ‘showcookings’ that have been scheduled for Saturday. A day that will also feature the presence of the media chef Maria Nicolau , a regular collaborator of Catalunya Ràdio and TV3.
The most entertaining ‘showcookings’
The first live cooking presentation will be held on Friday 26th, at 7pm in Plaça de la Vila, with Jordi Pey, from Cuinateca.cat, a popularizer of traditional Catalan recipes made with local products. There will be a tasting of 0-kilometer products afterwards.
On Saturday, at 11:30 am in Plaça de la Vila, Lo Pau de Ponts will present a ‘showcooking’ of forgotten plants by the Eixacorlant collective. A group of people whose aim is to promote a more sustainable, ethical and fair model of food production, distribution and consumption, and of socio-economic development, using as a tool the recovery of wild edible species and traditional agricultural varieties.
The most media-focused ‘showcooking’ will take place in the afternoon, at 6:30 p.m. also in Plaça de la Vila. Laura Zurriaga, known on social media as La Croqueta de Xocolata will show how to make ‘healthy’ desserts. Zurriaga has made a name for himself in the world of Catalan content creators by adapting desserts into healthier versions. A fact that has earned him a community of more than 114,000 followers.
The presentation of the book ‘Cremo’, by chef Maria Nicolau, will also be very popular with the media. The Tot Es Mou contributor of TV3 will exhibit its new recipe book at 5pm, before the Zurriaga ‘showcooking’, also in Plaça de la Vila.
If cooking demonstrations are the hallmark of the Empordà Cuina i Salut house, the local produce market is another essential part of the event. On Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm, Passeig Catalunya will be filled with stalls selling km0 products and crafts. Saturday will coincide with the Món Empordà Ecological Market, which takes place every fourth and fifth Saturday of the month.
To warm up the engines, on Thursday, April 25, the talk ‘Menopause and Food’ has been scheduled by the Integrated Health Services of Baix Empordà (SSIBE) at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of the Mediterranean.
The Empordà Food and Health Fair also has a good dose of activities aimed at a family audience. On Friday 26 April it opens with a popular snack at 5.30pm in Plaça de la Vila followed by street musical entertainment by ‘Els trastos Band’ by Jaume Ibars.
Saturday, April 27, the entertainment continues with the traveling parades ‘Traginers’ in the morning and ‘El xef estrellat’ in the afternoon, both run by Traüt espectacles.
As for the workshops, on Saturday 27 April from 10am to 1pm in Plaça del Mestre Pere Rigau, there will be one on botanical cyanotype with forgotten plants by Eixacorlant; and on the same day and in the same square but at 7.30pm there will be one on preparing snacks by La Xarranca.
In the sports section, the Montgrí, Les Illes Medes and Baix Ter Natural Park has organized an outing to enjoy the burst of spring on Saturday, April 27 at 10am and also at 10am in the Espai Ter area, Oriol Martínez from Functional Training will offer a functional outdoor training, with prior registration. On Wednesday, May 1 , as the culmination of the weekend, the Montgrí Cycling Club is organizing the 42nd Pedal Festival.
The Empordà Cuina i Salut Fair has also scheduled the family show ‘Massa Tip’ by Arriant Produccions. It will be on Saturday, April 27th at 6pm in Plaça dels Dolors.
And for the more playful , two activities: The solidarity game by Montgrí Team and Tell Fusta from 10am to 2pm in Plaça de la Vila; and the Guardawatts Game by I caen on Saturday 27th April at 4.30pm in Plaça del Mestre Pere Rigau
The councilor for Fairs, Dúnia Oliveras , indicated that, “L’Empordà Cuina i Salut is a very good opportunity to discover Torroella de Montgrí and its old town. Exhibitors, conferences, workshops, tastings and children’s shows mix with the active commercial life of Torroella and within the setting of its historical and cultural heritage.”
