The Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park has organized a technical conference to present the strategic projects of the municipalities in the Park and the renewal of the Action Plan of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism.
The event will take place on Friday, May 27th between 9:30 am and 2 pm in the Auditorium of the Mediterranean Museum in Torroella with the participation of the 8 municipalities that are part of the Park. Municipalities that have joined in a collaborative agreement to coordinate actions linked to tourism promotion and local development. The event will serve to learn how Protected Natural Areas can become an instrument of local development for the population that lives there. It will also explain the cases of good practices from other places that have served as inspiration for the strategic plan of the Montgrí les Illes Medes i Baix Ter Natural Park.
The day will start at 09.30 with the welcome and presentation of the day by the Mayor of Torroella de Montgrí i l’Estartit , Jordi Colomí ; and the President of the Montgrí, les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter Natural Park, Marc Casadellà . Then, at 10am, the strategic project of the municipalities of the Park will be presented by Carme Sanchiz, technical coordinator of the project and Josep Capellà , expert in Tourism and Local Development. Before reaching the coffee break, Òscar Palou will present the Montgrí ecological oil project. After the break, at 12pm, it will be time to talk about good practices. It will start with the Garrotxa Tourism project by Taurina Serra , manager of the Garrotxa Tourism Association . Afterwards, the Parc a Taula project of the Natural Parks Network of the Barcelona Provincial Council will be discussed by DIBA advisor, Xavier Roget .
This section will be closed by the director of the Montgrí Natural Park, Ramon Alturo , explaining the New Strategy of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism. The day will be closed at 1:45 p.m. by the Director General of Environmental Policies and the Natural Environment of the Generalitat , Marc Vilahur.
This event is part of the celebration of the European Day of Parks , which will have several activities scheduled until the end of the week. The European Day of Parks commemorates the declaration of the first European national parks in Sweden on May 24. The Natural Parks Network promotes activities to commemorate these anniversaries: guided walks, exhibitions, conferences, screenings, open days, workshops, festive matinees, storytelling sessions or volunteer activities, among many others.
