The process of developing the new Strategic Tourism Plan for Torroella de Montgrí and l'Estartit begins

The Tourism Department of the Torroella de Montgrí City Council has begun the process of developing a Strategic Tourism Plan that will be its roadmap for the period 2024-2030. Its drafting is one of the strategic lines of the Sustainability Plan

Tourism that is being developed in the municipality and to do so, a specialized company has been hired that, to begin with, will be in charge of carrying out personalized interviews with different agents in the tourism sector. Strategic line number 6 of the Sustainability Plan sets the objective of reviewing public-private cooperation models in the management of the tourist destination, with special emphasis on the participation of citizens and the business fabric of the municipality.

The chosen company is PAX# Genuine Tourism Advisors

The company chosen to develop the Strategic Tourism Plan is PAX# Genuine Tourism Advisors. A Catalan company with extensive experience in this type of project and in managing Sustainability Plans for local, supramunicipal, national and state administrations and consortia. Technical staff from the City Council and the company have already held the first working meeting where the methodology and calendar to be followed have been agreed.

A plan that will be developed with six phases and citizen participation

The development of the Strategic Tourism Plan for Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit will have six phases in which the key actors in the management of the Tourist Destination will be identified, its current situation will be analyzed with the participation and consensus of these actors, a strategic proposal will be made for where the tourist destination should be headed, specific actions to be taken will be identified and control mechanisms will be established that will allow monitoring whether the objectives of the plan are being met. In order to address all these phases, the tourism data generated by Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit will be analyzed, in-depth interviews will be conducted with different agents in the tourism sector, consultations will be made via forms to both the public and the private sector and 3 participatory workshops will be organized.

Contact with tourist agents

In the coming weeks, the company that is preparing the plan will contact different tourism agents in the municipality to conduct surveys and interviews. It is expected that the diagnosis of the situation of the tourist festival will be prepared in June, the main strategic lines for the future in September, and the specific actions to be developed within the framework of these lines in October. The Councilor for Tourism, Dúnia Oliveras , encourages the municipality’s tourism sector to participate in the drafting of this plan, which should help Torroella de Montgrí i l’Estartit continue to make steps forward in terms of tourism and consolidate the good work of tourist positioning that has been done in recent years.

The Tourism Sustainability Plan

The Torroella de Montgrí-l’Estartit Tourism Sustainability Plan is a strategic municipal project that aims to consolidate and give new impetus to the transversal work of regeneration of the destination that has been underway for three decades, based on the valorization of the territory and the promotion of culture. It is promoted by the Torroella de Montgrí City Council , in collaboration with the EMD of l’Estartit, and is being developed within the framework of the first edition of the “Tourism Sustainability Plans” program, promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Spanish State with the participation of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Girona Provincial Council. Within the framework of this plan, 29 projects and actions are being implemented grouped into 16 actions for urban improvement, infrastructures, services and natural spaces. The overall investment is 3.6 million euros.
