The rehabilitation works of the Can Castells building in Torroella de Montgrí are proceeding according to plan and the internal skeleton of the building is practically complete. This Thursday, a site visit was made to a construction that will house the Torroella de Montgrí Tourist Office , offices of the Tourism and Economic Promotion areas, the Montgrí Comerç headquarters and the Ràdio Montgrí studios. Technical and political representatives of the City Council and the company that manages the project and the construction company have toured the building and have been able to confirm that the works are progressing according to the planned pace. As of today, the most technically complicated part of the rehabilitation has practically been completed, which was the internal redistribution of the construction and the pre-installation of supplies. From now on, the internal finishes and electrical and water installations can be tackled.
The Can Castells building is located at Plaça de la Vila number 6 and consists of three floors. In order to be able to use it for its new purposes, it was necessary to demolish interior walls and rooms, build new stairs, provide for the location of an elevator and other elements to comply with accessibility regulations and carry out actions to improve the energy efficiency of the building. Once completed, it will have the Torroella de Montgrí Tourist Office on the ground floor with a warehouse, work spaces and the studios of Ràdio Montgrí on the second floor; and the offices of the trade and tourism areas on the third floor with a work room for Montgrí Comerç. There is also a roof with an office and a patio.
Its rehabilitation is included in the Tourism Sustainability Plan, specifically in line 4.1 which refers to improving visitor reception. The work has an execution cost of almost 600,000 euros.
The Tourism Sustainability Plan of Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit (2021-2023) is a strategic municipal project promoted by the Torroella de Montgrí City Council, in collaboration with the EMD of l’Estartit. It is implemented within the framework of the “Tourism Sustainability Plans” program promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, which also has the participation of the Generalitat of Catalonia, through the Department of Business and Employment and the financial support of the Girona Provincial Council.
