The Torroella de Montgrí City Council has started the beach surveillance service. Coinciding with the start of the Easter holidays, the Platja Gran de l’Estartit has launched a lifeguard service from 11 am to 6 pm.
Over the past few weeks, the municipal brigade has been preparing the beaches with all their services. A thorough cleaning has been carried out, showers have been installed, and walkways made of 100% recycled plastic materials have been placed.
The lifeguard and surveillance service will be provided daily until next Easter Monday every day and then on weekends and holidays until June 15, when it will be daily again until the end of the summer season, on September 15. Then it will be provided again on weekends and holidays until October 12. In July and August, the hours will be extended by an hour and a half and lifeguards will work between 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Service will also be provided on the beaches of Mas Pinell and Montgó. In parallel, the lifeguard points have amphibious chairs, crutches and elements to help people with reduced mobility enjoy the beaches.
Torroella i l’Estartit has over 5 km of fine, shallow sand, some of which are of high natural value and are practically virgin and very extensive. The most outstanding are Cala Montgó , Platja Gran , els Griells , la Pletera , la Gola , Mas Pinell and la Fonollera . To these we must add the small coves that can be reached after an excursion on foot or by boat, along the Montgrí coast, where you can enjoy diving. The beaches of the municipality can accommodate an average of 40,000 daily users in high season.
