Torroella de Montgrí receives a distinction for good practice in sustainable tourism 'The Natural Park at School'

The head of the Tourism area, Lídia Alonso; and the head of the Tourism Office, Marta Vilavedra, collect the awardThe educational project ‘ The Natural Park at School ‘, promoted by the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park , has been chosen as one of the 100 best sustainable tourism practices in the world.

As part of the ‘ Green Destinations Top 100 stories competition ‘, the Green Destinations organization collects the 100 best sustainable tourism practices from destinations around the world to share them and turn them into inspiring examples.

An educational project involving 9 schools from 6 municipalities

This year Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit have been selected for a project that brings the Natural Park closer to children and the entire educational community. 9 educational centers from six municipalities in Alt and Baix Empordà have participated in this educational program. Two of them, Guillem de Montgrí and Escola Portitxol , from Torroella and l’Estartit. A total of 3,000 students have participated and its objective is to ensure that children acquire the necessary tools to understand the Park’s immediate environment and become people capable of actively and critically intervening in it to conserve and improve it. This is a program that seeks to involve the entire educational community from children, through families, teachers, educational centers, the Natural Park and the Town Councils.

Reception of the badge within the framework of a Congress in Athens

The City Council’s Tourism Department received this Tuesday afternoon the distinction that accredits good practice within the framework of the Congress on the Future of Tourism being held this week in Athens, organized by Green Destinations. This and all the other practices chosen by Green Destinations are published on the organization’s website.
