The Torroella de Montgrí City Council has begun to carry out the works to improve the urban space and sustainable mobility of L’Estartit. These works, some of the most important of the Tourism Sustainability Plan (PST) , have a value of €674,872.24 and have been awarded to Aglomerats Girona.

The works aim to create a network of bike lanes that promotes sustainable mobility in the municipality and connects the main green areas and points of tourist, commercial and service interest in the Estadio core. Also improve the green areas and degraded squares to make them a meeting place for the neighborhood and a point for recreational, cultural or sports activities, always respecting the Urban Master Plan for the Review of Non-Sustainable Lands of the Girona coast, and therefore, valuing natural areas, and increasing the gardened surfaces with native species.

Remodeling of three squares in Les Griells

As for the specific actions of this project, segregated bike lanes will be created on Pletera and Freu streets and shared on the Torroella and Barcelona roads and Església, Pletera and Camèlia streets. Three squares of around 1000 m² each will also be improved and will be connected to the bike lane network and designed in such a way that they are multipurpose in terms of the uses that will be allowed there. These squares are within the urban fabric of the Griells urbanization and are currently degraded or disused sites. Another square in which action will be taken is Jacques Costeau, in the center of L’Estartit. This will be completely remodeled and will become a space of great urban quality, both functional and aesthetic. It will incorporate various leisure elements and a large space of 990 m² to host concerts, theater, open-air cinema, fairs or other types of public events. The Councillor for Tourism, Dúnia Oliveras, said that this “is the largest project being carried out in L’Estartit” and also “the most visual” since “we will see four spaces that are very large in size and that needed to be more friendly completely changed”. Oliveras also congratulated herself on the expansion of the network of cycle paths and the connection with the main points of interest in L’Estartit.

Works that complement the remodeling of the Parc de la Pineda

All these actions will complement the first one that was carried out in this aspect of the urban improvement of l’Estartit and which was the remodeling of the Parc de la Pineda, which this summer has already been enjoyed by visitors and the residents of l’Estartit. It has been an important point of influx where in addition to resting and enjoying the landscape, people have been able to see recreational and cultural activities such as storytellers or concerts as part of the recently concluded Pirates and Corsairs Fair.

Execution period of 3 and a half months

The urban improvement works in L’Estartit have a completion period of three and a half months and are part of point 1.2 of the Torroella de Montgrí Tourism Sustainability Plan, the point that refers to the improvement of the urban landscape of the town. The Tourism Sustainability Plan is endowed with 3.6 million euros. It is allowing the execution of 29 projects and actions, grouped into 16 action programs for urban improvement, infrastructures, services and natural spaces. It is funded by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Spanish Government, is promoted by the Torroella City Council in collaboration with the EMD and has the participation of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Girona Provincial Council.
