Plaça de la Vila

Torroella de Montgrí

The long sardana, a modern variant of the classical sardana, was danced for the first time in this porticoed town square.

The town house dates from the 15th-16th centuries. From the facades of the square, the magnificent sundial that presides over one of the houses and the Renaissance balcony of the house next door stand out.

You can also see the chapel of Sant Antoni, which is now an exhibition hall, and the Gothic-Renaissance style window of house number 6.

Behind Plaça de la Vila, there is the composer Pere Rigau’s square. Years ago it was known as Plaça de les Mesures. There you can see the monument Fases de Lluna (The Phases of the Moon), by the artist Francesc Ruestes.
