The rocky bottoms along the coast of L’Estartit are home to a rich biodiversity, offering some of the most unique underwater landscapes in the Mediterranean. If you go snorkelling, you’ll discover a diverse range of marine life, including fish, algae, octopuses, starfish, and the sapla, a herbivorous fish that swims in groups.

You may also encounter garots or sea urchins, flatfish (elongated fish with thick lips that swim close to the surface), and bream, a silver fish that feeds on sarots. One of the most significant underwater plants in the area is Posidonia, a type of seagrass found only in the Mediterranean. It forms lush meadows where young fish seek refuge. Another important species is salper hair, a type of algae that indicates the quality of the water.

If you plan to dive, here are some recommendations:

  • Bring goggles, a tube, and fins (duck feet).
  • Always dive with a companion.
  • Be mindful of the sea conditions and weather.
  • Always respect the flora and fauna of the underwater world.

The waters of L’Estartit are a beautiful and protected underwater ecosystem, offering an unforgettable experience for those who appreciate its natural wonders.
