About fifteen actors from the tourism sector of Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit participated last Friday in the first of three participatory workshops that will be held within the framework of the process of developing the new Strategic Tourism Plan for the Torroella de Montgrí – l’Estartit – Medes Islands Destination.
The drafting of this plan is part of strategic line 6 of the Tourism Sustainability Plan , which aims to review public-private cooperation models in the management of the tourist destination. The new Strategic Tourism Plan is divided into six phases in which the key actors in the management of the Tourist Destination are identified, its current situation is analyzed with the participation and consensus of these actors, a strategic proposal is made for where the tourist destination should be headed, specific actions to be taken are identified and control mechanisms are established that will allow monitoring whether the objectives of the plan are being met. In order to address all these phases, the tourism data generated by Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit are being analyzed, in-depth interviews have been conducted with different agents in the tourism sector, consultations have been made via forms to both citizens and the private sector and 3 participatory workshops have been organized.
The first of the workshops, held last Friday at the headquarters of the EMD of l’Estartit, was attended by 15 people linked to the Torroella de Montgrí City Council , the EMD of l’Estartit , the Montgrí les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter Natural Park , the Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board , the Baix Empordà Regional Council , the AFOMTUR and Joventuts Musicals associations of Torroella de Montgrí; and representatives of the hotel, apartment, campsite and rural tourism sectors of the municipality. Actors, who will continue to participate in the following two workshops, the next one, after the summer. In this first workshop, the SWOT methodology was used to make a diagnosis of the current state of the tourist destination. With the results of this first workshop, a vision and strategy workshop will be held and finally an actions workshop to identify them and establish who is responsible for leading them. It is planned that the diagnosis of the situation of the tourist festival will be prepared this June, the main strategic lines for the future in September, and the specific actions to be developed within the framework of these lines in October.
The Torroella de Montgrí-l’Estartit Tourism Sustainability Plan is a strategic municipal project that aims to consolidate and give new impetus to the transversal work of regeneration of the destination that has been underway for three decades, based on the valorization of the territory and the promotion of culture. It is promoted by the Torroella de Montgrí City Council, in collaboration with the EMD of l’Estartit, and is being developed within the framework of the first edition of the “Tourism Sustainability Plans” program, promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Spanish State with the participation of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Girona Provincial Council. Within the framework of this plan, 29 projects and actions are being implemented grouped into 16 actions for urban improvement, infrastructures, services and natural spaces. The overall investment is 3.6 million euros.
