Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit have inaugurated the tourist season with the start of the lifeguard service on the main beach of l’Estartit, coinciding with the start of the Easter holidays. This service is offered from 11 am to 6 pm.
Over the past few weeks, the municipal brigade has been conditioning the beaches of the municipality and setting up its services so that the first users of the season find them in perfect conditions. Footbridges and green areas have been installed: parking lots have been conditioned and public toilets have been prepared. This year, the extreme drought situation that the country is experiencing, with a state of emergency and restrictions on water consumption, has meant that showers and footbaths have not been installed as a saving measure. The toilet services will have water, but only for washing hands and faces. It is requested to use it responsibly and avoid wasting it.
The lifeguard and surveillance service on the large beach of L’Estartit will be provided daily until Easter Monday. Then, during the months of April, May and the first fortnight of June it will be provided on weekends and holidays. During the second fortnight of June there will be a reinforcement of the staff. Between June 15 and September 15 the service will be daily and during the months of July and August its hours will be extended to 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
During the two main months of summer, July and August, the lifeguard service will also start on Mas Pinell beach from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. From September 15 until October 13, the lifeguard service will once again be provided only on Platja Gran on weekends and holidays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The lifeguard house, located on the Platja Gran de l’Estartit, in front of the Parc de la Pineda, has equipment to make bathing easier for people with reduced mobility. Equipment such as amphibious chairs, crutches and other items. Until June 15, they can be requested for use without assistance and from June 15, with assistance. During the high season months and high frequency on the beaches, it is recommended to reserve assisted bathing to ensure that equipment is available. As for July and August, the Mini Beach Club will be open again from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This space, located in front of the Parc de la Pineda next to the Lifeguard Tower, is designed so that children between 4 and 10 years old can play with the encouragement of two monitors.
Torroella i l’Estartit has over 5 km of fine, shallow sand, some of which are of high natural value and practically virgin and very extensive. The beaches of the municipality can accommodate an average of 40,000 daily users in high season.
