The Beatles Weekend l’Estartit will come of age with the premiere of its own production with Jaume Pla ‘Mazoni’ . The Beatles Tribute Festival will be held from 17 to 21 July with various activities including concerts, talks and exhibitions. This year the Beatles Weekend will premiere its own production by Jaume Pla ‘Mazoni’. It is The Rockin’ Beats , a quartet with the Biscayan singer-songwriter as leader who will take a journey through rock throughout the Beatles’ discography. The central concert of the event will be held on Saturday 20 July at 10pm in Plaça del Molinet. Jaume Pla ‘Mazoni’ was recognized last year with the Josep Maria Francino Beatlemania Award, which this 2024 will be presented on Saturday, July 20 at 12:30 pm in Plaça The Beatles in the fanzine El Submarí Groc, the first Beatle fanzine in Catalan that has been published quarterly since 2015.

Six more concerts at the Beatles Weekend ‘Purple edition’

Beyond the central concert, the Beatles Weekend will have five more concerts. The first will be on Friday, July 19 at 9:30 p.m. in Plaça de l’Església by The Beatl’s. The next day, Saturday the 20th, after The Rockin’ Beats, Hey Bulldogs will perform in Plaça del Molinet. And at midnight, the Sala Mariscal will offer the Blues & Beatles concert with the group Los Cheyenes Legacy , formed by musicians from the legendary Barcelona band. On Sunday, July 21st at 11 a.m., the Nautilus Yellow Submarine will once again visit the Medes Islands with live music by Ambós and Two of Us on the already legendary Magical Medes Tour . Finally, at 7 p.m. in Plaça de l’Església, Les Veus de l’Estartit will translate the British group’s most legendary pieces into Catalan in ‘The Beatles a viva veu’.

Three exhibitions about The Beatles

As every year, Beatlemania will also be expressed in exhibition format with two proposals that can be seen from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm in the EMD Auditorium. The first is the collection of the Josep Maria Francino collection of versions of Beatles songs (the Francino Archive has more than 10,000 versions catalogued) and the second is the exhibition on the concert that Pete Best gave last year with photographs by Mari Cusidó. And there is still a third exhibition proposal, which can be seen at the Mar de Llibres Library from 10 am to 2 pm on The Beatles on the Radio, a selection of various materials on the Beatles’ relationship with radio as a means of communication from the Josep Maria Francino collection.

Talks and literary presentations

Regarding the dissemination of The Beatles’ legacy, Enrique Barcelona will speak about the geography of the group on Friday, July 19 at 7 pm at the Mar de Llibres Library, with a tour of places and spaces that are part of the group’s history. And on Saturday, July 20, Luís Merino will speak about The Beatles’ relationship with radio, in the talk ‘From Beatles To Radio’ coinciding with the centenary of radio in Catalonia, in the EMD auditorium. Merino was the winner of the Josep Maria Francino award at the 2019 Beatlemania. On the same Saturday, July 20 at 7 pm at the Mar de Llibres Library, José María Plaza will present the book Los Beatles y Ellas and will talk about the women who were with the Beatles and how they influenced their lives and their songs. Literature about the Beatles will also have a hole on Sunday, July 21 with the presentation of the book Beatles, Sisplau by Jordi Padrós. It will be in a literary vermouth format, at 1 p.m. at the Bell Racó venue.

Emulate the famous Abbey Road photo

One of the most curious events of The Beatles Weekend is the photo that emulates the famous image of the Abbey Road crosswalk every year. It will be on Saturday 20 July at 10.30am on Santa Anna Street in front of the Elias Bookstore with the Sergeant Pepper’s jackets. This event is the traditional official start to the Beatles Weekend.
In the afternoon, from 5 to 8 p.m., the Mar de Llibres Library will organize a family afternoon with a photocall, Lego spot, sing along and stories about the British band.

Beatle’s Doc, female

This year’s Beatle’s Doc 2024 is dedicated to the women of The Beatles with a documentary that will be screened on Thursday, July 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the auditorium of the Mar de Llibres Library. The Beatles Weekend is organized by the Decentralized Municipal Entity of l’Estartit with the collaboration of the Girona Provincial Council, which has allowed the festival to be positioned as one of the benchmarks among Beatlemania in Europe.
