The execution of the Third Phase of the Espai Medes begins with the act of rethinking the work

The third phase of the Espai Medes , the marine interpretation center of the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter will last 5 months and will consist of the closure of the building, supplies and paving of the floor, that is, leaving it ready to carry out the museographic project of the space.

This Wednesday morning, the work review ceremony was held with the participation of the Mayor, Jordi Colomí , the Councilor for Tourism, Dúnia Oliveras , and technical staff from the Torroella de Montgrí City Council , Ports de la Generalitat , the Girona Provincial Council and the company that will carry out the work. As explained, the work will begin next week and will be divided into three phases, which will begin with the concreting of the floor, work that is expected to be completed before Sant Joan. Sources from the company have indicated that they will try to minimize noise and inconvenience as much as possible in a very busy area of ​​the port of l’Estartit.

The Provincial Council is responsible for directing the execution of the work

The Girona Provincial Council is responsible for directing the execution of the third phase of a project that has a cost of around 700,000 euros and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) with 200,000 euros and the Provincial Council with 100,000 euros. The rest is provided by the City Council. Last April, the City Council and the Provincial Council signed a collaboration agreement to advance the execution of these works that are being carried out by OHL Servicios Ingesan .

Management and promotion program

In parallel with the completion of the construction project, the City Council, through the Torroella de Montgrí i l’Estartit Tourism Sustainability Plan (2021-2023), is working on drafting the management and promotion program and launch strategy for the Espai Medes. This project is included in action line 3.3. Espai Illes Medes Management Program of the plan, and has a budget of 30,000 euros, 15,000 for conceptualization and management (2022) and 15,000 for the launch strategy (2023). The Espai Medes is being built on the central pier of the port of l’Estartit. It will be the reference center and dissemination of the environmental, cultural and tourist values ​​of the Natural Park, in its marine area. It will also become a promotional instrument at the service of local economic revitalization. It will complement its activity with that of the Mediterranean Museum, which will be the reference facility for the land part of the park.
