The Sant Andreu Fair recovers the Horse Festival and celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Driving Dog Competition

Atura Dog CompetitionThe Sant Andreu Fair in Torroella de Montgrí brings back the Horse Festival and celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Atura Dog Competition in a weekend full of activities. On November 26th and 27th, the municipality dresses up to celebrate the oldest Agricultural, Livestock and Commercial Fair in Catalonia, which this year reaches its 628th edition, reinforcing the importance of local, organic and Natural Park products.

With a full program of activities for all audiences, the theme of this year’s Fair will explore how the lives of the people of Torroella changed with the arrival of electricity. An element that will be visualized through theatrical visits to different emblematic spaces of the town of Fira en el Record. This activity can be done freely from 11 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm and will have guided visits on Saturday and Sunday at 12 pm and 6 pm at a price of 3 euros. The tour, as usual, leaves from the Museum of the Mediterranean and subscribers to the Diari de Girona and El Punt will be able to enjoy a 2×1.

The epicenter of the Fair, increases comfort and savings

Children's activitiesThe big weekend in Torroella will start on Saturday at 10 am with the opening of the trade fair, which this year will be located entirely in the Espai, while the adjacent space will be dedicated to the little ones in the house with a multitude of games, workshops and entertainment. This is the epicentre of the fair, around which a whole series of exhibition spaces and areas are arranged. Outside the Espai Ter, around 200 stalls will be distributed between the Passeig de Catalunya, which will host the Sant Andreu Market and the New and Used Vehicle Show; and the Passeig Vicenç Bou, where there will be the artisans’ fair, the agricultural machinery exhibition and an exhibition of classic vehicles. Within the Espai Ter, the promotion of local, organic and Natural Park products will take on importance. Stands will be set up with tastings of products such as oil, fruit juices or herbal infusions, to name a few. The Sant Andreu Fair will coincide in time with a campaign consisting of decorating several empty commercial premises in Torroella de Montgrí with the promotion of local and Natural Park products, in decorations made by Les Parisines.

Santi Serra returns to the Horse Festival

Horse festivalAfter the absence of the last two years due to the pandemic, the Horse Festival returns with the Santi Serra show as the main attraction. Horse lovers will be able to enjoy a wide variety of equestrian specialties throughout the weekend: carriage handling, high school exhibition with long reins, classical dressage, carousel, children’s vaulting, ponies or jumps to name a few examples. In parallel, there will be an equestrian commercial space. Along with the equestrian exhibitions, pony and cart rides and horse forging and forage demonstrations will round off a weekend dedicated to the world of horses. The star performance of the Horse Festival will undoubtedly be the one starring the renowned Santi Serra, with his natural dressage show where he will show his mastery with these animals. Serra will perform on Saturday and Sunday at 6pm for free and will then sign his new book at Espai Ter.

The championship of champions remains alongside Espai Ter

Atura dog competitionOne of the most anticipated events is, without a doubt, the Atura Dog Competition, which every year attracts a large audience from all over Catalonia. This year is a very special date since the Championship of Champions is in its 30th edition. Like last year, the Competition will be located in the parking lot next to Espai Ter, on Sunday at 10:30 am. Participants will be Leyla Ortiz with Naixa, Moisès Tarrés with Mel, Miquel Sastre with Tronc, Miquel Adrover with Xeco, Hilari Novillo with Beyon, Jon Olivares with Bizi and Gaizka Etxeniz with Laster. Judge Gillian Howell and master of ceremonies Raül Muixach will be back. Presence of new breeds of cows in the stables of the Sant Andreu Fair
The livestock side of the fair will once again be dominated by farm animals. This year cows will gain importance with the presence of new breeds. The Sant Andreu Fair is also the chosen setting for the Girona Provincial Championship of Breed Pigeons, which will take place at the commercial premises on Passeig Catalunya, 24. The exhibition can be visited from 10 am to 8 pm and the awards ceremony will take place on Sunday at 12 pm.

Activities for all audiences

Dragon ParadeDuring the weekend, many activities of all kinds have been scheduled, with the aim of ensuring that everyone, young and old, has their space. Among the parallel activities are a Petanque Tournament on Saturday at 10am at the John Lennon Gardens by the Torroella de Montgrí Petanque Club, guided tours of the Sant Genís church on both Saturday and Sunday; a rhythmic gymnastics exhibition on Saturday at 12.30pm by the Montgrí Gymnastics Club; a bird feeder workshop by Gisfera on Sunday at 10.30am and 12.30pm; an outing to learn about the invasive species of the Ter by Gisfera on Sunday at 4pm; an afternoon of competition by the AFA del Petit Montgrí on Sunday at 6pm and a concert with the Sol Ixent, Móndeveus and Anselm Viola choirs on Sunday at 6pm in the Sant Genís church.

Parades and popular culture

Popular culture will also have a prominent place at the Sant Andreu Fair with the Drac parade on Saturday at 7pm starting at Passeig de l’Església and the parade through the streets of the town on Sunday at 12pm also starting at Passeig de l’Església.
