The Tourism Sustainability Plan (PST) of Torroella and l’Estartit (2021-2023) will contribute to the fulfillment and dissemination among the population, visitors and companies of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda, an initiative promoted by the UN in 2015 with the aim of ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring that all people live in peace and prosperity. This ambitious global strategy establishes 17 goals popularly known as SDGs and 169 milestones to be achieved by 2030. The agreement also specifies specific indicators to measure their degree of fulfillment. Dúnia Oliveras, Councillor for Tourism and responsible for the deployment of the PST, argues that “the City Council of Torroella de Montgrí and the EMD of l’Estartit are committed to contributing to the achievement of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda through local policies and the promotion of the active involvement of citizens. In this sense, the PST is considered to be a magnificent tool to contribute to compliance and raise awareness of the importance of the SDGs.”
Alignment with the SDGs
The technical management of the PST has carried out an internal assessment to determine which of the 17 SDGs the lines of work and planned projects fit into. In this way, it will be possible to assess the contribution that the PST will make in terms of Agenda 2030. Likewise, in the task of disseminating the actions, an emphasis will also be placed on explaining this link. The strategy and actions of the PST mainly converge on the fulfillment of 6 of the 17 SDGs established by the UN:
