Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit have achieved three distinctions from the Baix Empordà 2020 Tourist Accessibility Plan. Specifically, they have been awarded to the Tourist Office, the Gran Beach and the Mediterrània Museum. This is the first time that this initiative has been promoted, promoted and coordinated by the Baix Empordà Regional Council. It is a pioneering and innovative plan, which aims to highlight the region as an accessible tourist destination and generate a new differential and qualitative value in tourist competitiveness. This is a shared objective within the Baix Empordà Tourist Commission and is also a priority for the Torroella de Montgrí City Council and the EMD of l’Estartit. Tourist companies or services that want to apply for this distinction must pass the validation audit carried out by a company specializing in tourist accessibility. In total, 25 proposals have been approved in the region: 1 campsite, 4 hotels, 7 museums and centres of interest, 7 tourist offices, 3 beaches, 2 itineraries through historic centres and 1 bicycle route. The recipients of this project are, first and foremost, all those public and private spaces that are part of the tourist offer of Baix Empordà and that want to improve their tourist accessibility, such as tourist offices, natural spaces, cultural resources, accommodation companies, restaurants, active tourism companies, etc. The final recipients are tourists, visitors and all those people who have some type of disability (physical or motor, sensory or intellectual), reduced mobility or special needs. The distinctions were formally awarded at a ceremony held on Wednesday in the courtyard of the Casa de Cultura Ca La Pruna in Pals. The municipality was attended by the mayor, Jordi Colomí; the head of Tourism, Lídia Alonso, and the director of the Museu de la Mediterrània, Gerard Cruset. During the event, the publication Turisme per a tothom al Baix Empordà was also presented, published in four languages (Catalan, Spanish, French and English) with 8,000 copies that will be distributed to the Tourist Offices of the region and to participating companies and services. It can also be consulted online at www.visitemporda.com and is available for blind people. The Girona Costa Brava Tourist Board and the Greenways Consortium also participate in the project.
