Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit will experience a Sant Joan revetment with the music of the Ítaca Festival and the traditional arrival of the Flama del Canigó with street and family shows. The Ítaca Festival will once again be the big revetment party on the Costa Brava with two days of concerts on the Platja Gran de l’Estartit. On June 22 with Arde Bogotá , Cala Vento , Marlena , La Ludwig Band and Ryna DJ ; and on June 23 with The Tyets , Julieta , Mushka , Classe B and DJ Trapella . The concerts will start at 8pm. On Saturday, also within the framework of this festival there is a drone spectacle by Flock Technologies at 11pm on the beach.
The most traditional evening will be the Canigó Flame, a tradition linked to the summer solstice that is celebrated in different corners of the Catalan Countries. From the top of Canigó, several volunteers lower the fire that will light the bonfires on the night of Sant Joan. The flame will arrive in Torroella de Montgrí at 8:30 p.m. at the Plaça de la Vila, where from 7:45 p.m. the children’s show ‘Festa a la plaça’ with Fefé i Companya will be taking place. In l’Estartit, the flame will arrive around 8 p.m. accompanied by the Retumbatuka batucada and a correfoc by the Pirat’s del Foc . At 10:15 p.m. this fire will light the Sant Joan bonfire located on the beach of l’Estartit.
In the coastal town, a space has been set up to throw firecrackers in the parking lot of Platja de l’Estartit. There will also be a DYA medical emergency point on the Passeig Marítim. In order to facilitate mobility on the shortest night of the year, three free parking areas have been set up: In the deterrent parking lot at the entrance to the town, in the area of the skate park on Carrer Freu and at the old Ter Vell sewage treatment plant. Parking will not be allowed on the Passeig Marítim de l’Estartit on June 23 from 8 a.m. and traffic will be closed between 7 p.m. and midnight.
Regarding safety measures to prevent fires and problems with pyrotechnics, the Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit City Council calls for caution and respect for people and urban furniture. It is recommended to close windows and balconies and not have flammable elements on terraces and balconies. Also, do not carry firecrackers in your pockets or shoot rockets with your hand. Likewise, it is recalled that at this time of year it is prohibited to make fires in all forest lands in Catalonia, whether they are populated with tree species or not, and in the 500-meter strip that surrounds them. In this sense, to make a fire, authorization is required from the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and the Natural Environment and the Torroella de Montgrí City Council.
