The Tourism Department of the Torroella de Montgrí i l’Estartit City Council has participated in the Meeting of Managers of the Smart Tourist Destinations Network where it has explained its good practices in terms of accessibility. The meeting was held this week in Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife) with the participation of more than 150 managers of the DTI network.
These meetings are designed as a space to promote cooperation and collaboration between members of the DTI network. Over the course of three days, talks were held on elements that make up smart destinations, round tables, networking spaces were held and good practices from different destinations were heard, including Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit. The head of the l’Estartit Tourist Office, Marta Vilavedra, participated on Wednesday afternoon in a round table on accessibility issues, where she explained the actions that the municipality has taken in this regard. She shared a table with the destinations Montevideo and Bilbao.
Torroella de Montgrí has a score of 59.8% in the accessibility axis, above the average of the rest of the destinations in the DTI network which is 40.6%. The municipality is part of the Baix Empordà Tourism Accessibility Plan and within the framework of the Tourism Sustainability Plan it has contracted a consultancy and audit service to help tourist establishments become more accessible environments. Around thirty reports have been made that identify the situation of the establishment in terms of accessibility and improvement actions are proposed. Work has also been done on the training of staff working in the tourism sector through different courses since 2019 in sign language, tourist accessibility, easy reading or web accessibility. In the area of infrastructure, intense work has been done to improve the environment with accessibility measures at the Tourist Office, public toilets, walkways and beach railings, accessible bathrooms, accessible service billboards and the adaptation of tourist itineraries for people with reduced mobility.
