Cala Montgó

The distinction recognises the beach’s environmental quality, bathing safety and high standard of services

Cala Montgó has once again been awarded the Blue Flag for the sixteenth consecutive year, an international distinction that recognises the environmental quality of the beach and the excellence of the services provided.

The beach is one of nearly one hundred beaches in Catalonia to receive this award this year, which is granted in 47 countries around the world.

Cala Montgó first received the Blue Flag in 2008 and has retained it continuously since 2010.

The award is granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education, which assesses aspects such as environmental management, bathing safety, service quality and visitor information. One of the essential requirements is an excellent water quality.

The evaluation is carried out by a jury made up of representatives from public administrations, environmental organisations and experts in the field.

Club Nàutic Estartit has also renewed its Blue Flag status and remains one of the 24 marinas in Catalonia holding this environmental and quality certification.

A diverse coastline committed to quality

Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit offer nearly 15 kilometres of coastline, including coves surrounded by the Montgrí cliffs, natural beaches and wide family-friendly beach with shallow waters.

For years, the Coastal Department of Torroella de Montgrí Town Council has been working on different quality and sustainability indicators linked to the coastline. In this regard, l’Estartit beach  has held the Integrated Management System (SIG) environmental and tourism quality certification since 2006 and also receives the annual Q for Tourist Quality flag.
