Torroella de Montgrí and L’Estartit are prepared to celebrate Sant Joan (Saint John’s eve), one of the most important festivities of the year and the traditional start of summer in Catalonia.
From 19 to 28 June, visitors can enjoy a vibrant programme of live music, cultural traditions, bonfires and family-friendly activities in a unique Mediterranean setting.
In L’Estartit, the main attraction is the Ítaca Sant Joan Festival, which transforms the beach into a spectacular open-air concert venue. Over three days, renowned artists such as Love of Lesbian, Sidonie, La M.O.D.A., La Ludwig Band, 31 FAM and Cupido will perform by the sea, creating one of the most exciting musical events of the early summer season.
The programme also includes Ítaca Plaça, a free concert series held in the charming Plaça de l’Església of L’Estartit, showcasing emerging artists in a more intimate atmosphere.
As in previous years, a spectacular drone show over the beach will light up the sky on 20 June, offering a memorable visual experience by the Mediterranean.
On the evening of 23 June, the Canigó Flame will arrive in L’Estartit accompanied by a lively parade featuring Retumbatuka and the Pirat’s del Foc. The arrival of the flame will be followed by the lighting of the traditional Sant Joan bonfire, one of the most symbolic moments of the celebration.
Festivities continue on 24 June with a traditional human tower exhibition and a parade of giant figures through the streets of L’Estartit. The programme concludes on 27 and 28 June with the centenary celebration of Taberna de Can Bernat and the Second Gathering of Maritime Giants of Catalonia.
In Torroella de Montgrí, Sant Joan will also be celebrated with the arrival of the Canigó Flame, family activities and traditional ceremonies in the historic town centre.
Sant Joan is the perfect opportunity to discover the destination at one of the most vibrant times of the year, when music, local culture and the Mediterranean atmosphere come together to welcome summer.
During the busiest days, special parking areas will be available in L’Estartit and some temporary traffic restrictions will be in place around Platja Gran and the Passeig Marítim. Visitors are advised to check the latest information before travelling.
To enjoy the Midsummer celebrations safely, please note that the use of fireworks is recommended only in the designated areas and that fireworks are strictly prohibited in the municipality’s protected natural areas.
