A sea turtle  has chosen the Fonollera Beach for the first confirmed nesting of the season in Catalonia.

This is the second consecutive year that this protected species has nested in Torroella de Montgrí and L’Estartit, highlighting the area’s exceptional ecological value and the quality of its natural habitats.

To ensure the safety of the 71 eggs, conservation teams have carefully relocated the nest to a safer area on the same beach, where it will remain protected and monitored throughout the incubation period. If everything goes as expected, the hatchlings could emerge between mid and late September.

The sea turtle is one of the Mediterranean’s most iconic marine species. In recent years, it has gradually established new nesting sites across the western Mediterranean. Its presence is a clear sign of the excellent conservation status of our coastline and reinforces our commitment to protecting marine biodiversity.
