Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit have been nominated by National Geographic magazine as one of the best beach destinations in Spain for 2026. The destination is competing in the readers’ awards presented annually by this prestigious travel and nature publication.
The municipality has been shortlisted alongside Calvià (Mallorca), the Ferrol Coast (Galicia), Águilas (Murcia), Oriola (Valencian Country), Llanes (Asturias) and l’Ametlla de Mar (Catalonia). In the case of Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit, the magazine highlights the wide variety of beaches and, above all, the appeal of their proximity to the Medes Islands Marine Reserve.
Almost one hundred nominees are competing across 14 different categories, including best urban destinations, ecotourism destinations, hotels, gastronomy and vehicles for travel, among others.
Voting for these awards, now in their fourth edition, is open until 22 February at midnight through the link provided by National Geographic. The magazine will announce the winners on 21 April and publish the results in its May issue. To cast a valid vote, participants must vote in all categories.
Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit boast nearly 15 kilometres of coastline, offering a wide range of landscapes: from fully serviced urban beaches to natural beaches, secluded coves, breathtaking cliffs and unspoilt natural areas.
