The access to the Montgrí Natural Park is closed due to he heat wave with high temperatures and low humidity that have increased the forest fire risk.
The Catalan Government has activated the maximum level of fire risk prevention plan in 57 municipalities and different natural parks such as Montgrí, les Alberes, Cap de Creus, Garraf, Montsant and Montmell, in where the access by walk or vehicle is completely forbidden.
Access to the Montgrí Natural Park is closed for pedestrians and vehicles, and the practice of sport in the natural environment is restricted. Furthermore, agricultural works are suspended, and exceptional authorizations to set fire revoked. Since March 15th there has been a general ban on lighting fires in forest land or in the 500 meter strip that surrounds it, including barbecues in leisure areas.
The aim of the access ban is to limit the human presence in the natural environment as much as possible, since 90% of forest fires are the result of imprudence or negligence.
