The Beatles Weekend in L’Estartit will reach its 18 edition with a special new production featuring Jaume Pla ‘Mazoni’. The tribute festival to The Beatles will take place from July 17th to 21th with various activities, including concerts, talks, and exhibitions.
This year, the Beatles Weekend will perform a new production led by Jaume Pla ‘Mazoni’. The Rockin’ Beats, a quartet headed by this catalan artist, will present a journey through rock within The Beatles’ discography. The main concert of the event will take place on Saturday, July 20th at 10 PM in the Plaça del Molinet.
Six More Concerts at Beatles Weekend ‘Purple Edition’
In addition to the main activity, there will be more six more concerts. The first will be on Friday, July 19th at 9:30 PM in the Plaça de l’Església by The Beatl’s. The following day, Saturday, July 20, after The Rockin’ Beats, Hey Bulldogs will perform in Plaça del Molinet. At midnight, the Sala Mariscal will host the Blues & Beatles concert with Los Cheyenes Legacy.
On Sunday, July 21th at 11 AM, the Nautilus Yellow Submarine will make its traditional visit to the Medes Islands with live music from Ambdós and Two of Us on the Magical Medes Tour. Finally, at 7 PM in Plaça de l’església, Les Veus de l’Estartit will translate the most iconic songs of the British band into Catalan in ‘The Beatles a viva veu’. (The Beatles live voice)
Three Exhibitions
As in every edition, the Beatlemania will also be expressed through exhibitions with two art exhibitions open Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM in the EMD Hall. The first is a collection from the Josep Maria Francino archive of Beatles covers (the Francino Archive catalogs has over 10,000 versions) and the second is an exhibition on the concert Pete Best gave last year with photos by Mari Cusidó.
There is also a third exhibition, which can be seen at the Mar de Llibres Library from 10 AM to 2 PM, on The Beatles on the Radio, a selection of various materials on The Beatles’ relationship with the radio.
Talks and Literary Presentations
Regarding the dissemination of The Beatles’ legacy, Enrique Barcelona will speak about the group’s geography on Friday, July 19th at 7 PM at the Mar de Llibres Library, with a journey through places and spaces that are part of the group’s history. On Saturday, July 20th, Luís Merino will discuss The Beatles’ relationship with the radio in the talk ‘From Beatles to the Radio’, coinciding with the centenary of radio in Catalonia, at the EMD Hall.
On the same Saturday, July 20th at 7 PM at the Mar de Llibres Library, José María Plaza will present his book Los Beatles y Ellas and discuss the women who were close to The Beatles and how they influenced their lives and songs. Beatles literature will also feature on Sunday, July 21th with the presentation of Jordi Padrós’ book ‘Beatles, Sisplau’. This will be in the form of a literary vermouth at 1 PM at Bell Racó.
Emulating the Famous Abbey Road Photo
One of the most curious events of The Beatles Weekend is the annual photo emulating the famous Abbey Road crosswalk image. It will take place on Saturday, July 20th at 10:30 AM on Santa Anna Street in front of the Elias Bookstore with the Sergeant Pepper’s jackets.
In the afternoon, from 5 PM to 8 PM, the Mar de Llibres Library will host a family afternoon with a photo call, Lego spot, sing-along, and stories about the British band.
Beatle’s Doc, Female Edition
Beatle’s Doc 2024 is dedicated to the women of The Beatles with a documentary to be screened on Thursday, July 18th from 7 PM to 9 PM in the Hall of the Mar de Llibres Library.
The Beatles Weekend is organized by the Entitat Municipal Descentralitzada de l’Estartit with the collaboration of the Diputació de Girona, establishing the festival as one of the leading Beatlemania events in Europe.
