L’Estartit highlights the Mediterranean sand-eel during a weekend dedicated to this product and with activities for the whole family. The weekend dedicated to this fish caught by local fishermen using traditional techniques will take place on Saturday, May 18th, and Sunday, May 19th.
On Saturday, May 18th, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities for the whole family. Starting at 11 a.m., a popular gathering at the port of Estartit will kick off the day, followed by a family workshop on fish printing by La Sal d’Olot. At 11:30 a.m., Les Anxovetes will offer a vermouth concert with their traditional ‘havaneres’. At 5 p.m., those interested can enjoy a guided tour titled ‘Estartit, Land of Fishermen’, organized by the Museum of the Mediterranean. On Sunday, May 19th, at 11 a.m., the events will continue with the baptism of the new big-headed figures of l’Estartit: Estar and Tit. A starfish and a seagull that accompany a self-guided route with family games through the most emblematic landscapes of l’Estartit. The presentation of both figures will culminate in a procession through the streets, accompanied by the local Giant Colla Xiscu i Remei, the Grallers del Montgrí, and the Giant Colla de Caldes. At 12 p.m., in Plaça 1 d’Octubre, Galiot Teatre will present the family show ‘En Bernat el Pescador’. Meanwhile, the exhibition ‘Nets and Fishermen’ will be on display throughout the weekend. at the Museum of the Mediterranean in Torroella de Montgrí.
The Mediterranean Sand-Eel Weekend features a gastronomic campaign and a technical session
Accompanying this event, from May 15th to June 15th, 13 restaurants in the municipality offer special menus with the Mediterranean sand-eel as the protagonist, blending culinary tradition with innovative touches.
Additionally, the Mediterranean Sand-Eel Weekend will include a Technical Session aimed at professionals, with lectures on marine biology, sand-eel fishing management, and other related topics, followed by a tapas tasting. To participate, registration is required at info@visitestartit.com.
The Estartit Mediterranean Sand-Eel Weekend is organized by the Torroella de Montgrí City Council, the EMD of l’Estartit, the Fishermen’s Association of the town, and the AFOMTUR, with the collaboration of GALP Costa Brava through the European Union.
