L’Estartit has opened a new welcome area and parking at the entrance to the village with the objective to be a welcoming space for tourist, reduce traffic in the downtown and become a meeting point for shared mobility.
It has 95 spaces for cars, 4 for coaches and 4 for persons with reduced mobility. In addition, it has a public toilet and a rest area. Also space to park bicycles and loading and unloading area.
The space does not allow the entry of trucks and the access of motorhomes is restricted during the day, from 08:00 to 24:00. Therefore, they cannot spend the night there.
Meeting point for shared mobility and access to the town
Beyond the parking function, the space wants to be an entrance to l’Estartit with several informative panels about the town, its surroundings and the natural park. Panels that have been installed recently and that will be complemented by two more posters at the entrance and exit of the car park, with information about the services and rules of this new area.
The area also wants to become a meeting point for sustainable mobility, for example for car sharing. The intention is that people who come to l’Estartit leave their vehicle in this car park and approach the downtown on foot, by bicycle or by public transport.
The new welcome is expected to gain relevance in the future. Some services such as e-bikes and electric cars chargers will soon be added.
An action that is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan
The budget of this infrastructure is about 157,000 euros. It is one of the 29 projects planned as part of the Torroella de Montgrí-l’Estartit Tourism Sustainability Plan (2021-2023). This project, in particular, is included in the action program 2.1 Sustainable Mobility, which costs 665,000 euros.
