The Pirates and Corsairs of the Medes Islands will disembark at l’Estartit from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th September in the traditional Pirates and Corsairs Fair. The event arrives at its nineteenth edition combining recreational and cultural activities with the aim of spread history of piracy in L’Estartit.
On Friday the 22nd the Pirates will disembark at the Platgeta at 9pm in a spectacular show followed by a Correfoc (fire parade) between 1 d’Octubre Square and the Passeig Marítim. Saturday 23rd, also in La Platgeta, there will be a Naval Battle at 6.30pm and half an hour later a parade between 1 d’Octubre Square and La Pineda Park. On Sunday the 24th, the Aixa boat will protagonize a photocall and a parade between 1 d’Octubre Square and the Passeig Marítim.
Workshops and theatre
The Pirates and Corsairs Fair program is full of family activities such as craft workshops, storytelling, familiar shows and the Little Pirate Space in Plaça de la Llevantina with workshops and pony rides.
The theater has also a lot of importance in this event with a route called ‘Pirate Estartit’ on Saturday and Sunday morning and as the novelty of this year also on Saturday evening. Also new in the programmation of this year is the Can Bernat Museum, where you will be able to experience how it was a fisherman’s tavern at the beginning of the 20th century. The Pirate’s fair will end with the ‘Sebastià the conqueror’. A show by Excalibur Theatre at 7pm in La Llevantina Square.
Exhibition on the origin of piracy
The history of piracy is ancient and this year the Fair’s exhibition will focus on its origins. The exhibition will open on Friday 22nd at 6pm in the EMD and can be visited on Friday afternoon and Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon.
Coinciding with the Pirates Fair, visitors will have the option to visit the Medes Islands, go on boat trips or learn how to navigate in activities run by local companies.
Furthermore, both Saturday and Sunday, l’Estartit’s downtown will host an artisan market.
Music on Saturday and Sunday nights, a Dj Session on Saturday evening and a blood donation on Sudnay, complete a weekend full of activities.
