The Pirates and Corsairs of the Medes Islands will once again conquer L’Estartit, with a night of fire. From September 20th to 22nd, the Pirates and Corsairs Fair celebrates its 20th edition. The event combines a variety of leisure and cultural activities for all kinds of audiences. The streets will be filled with theatre, parades, pirate performances, children’s workshops, and guided tours, among other activities.
Fire to open and close the event
The 20th Pirates and Corsairs Fair will open and close with fire. On Friday, September 20th, the Pirates will take to the streets of L’Estartit with a fire parade starting at 9 PM from the Platgeta to the Church Square. The ‘Corsari Negre’ will ‘threaten’ L’Estartit from the sea with a pyrotechnic show, followed by a fire parade through the town’s streets.
The traditional closing show of the Fair, on Sunday, will also change its format and location, featuring fire as one of its main elements. It will be performed on the beach, near Can Pau.
Retumbatuka, the ‘Pirat’s de les Medes’, and the Aixa Ship will not miss their annual appointment with the Pirates and Corsairs Fair, with two parades on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
The program has plenty of family activities. Several storytellings, family workshops, and ponies. Some of these activities have an entry fee ranging from 3 to 5 euros.
Theatre and guided visits
Beyond the final closing show of the Pirates and Corsairs Fair, the event is filled with performances and theatre throughout the weekend, with guided visits and parades by Excalibur Theatre.
Piracy has inspired stories, legends, comics, and music, all of which are featured in this year’s exhibition. Titled ‘The Dark Side of Pirates: Music, Comics, and Series,’ it highlights the remarkable influence of pirates on 80s and 90s rock music. The exhibition will be open all weekend at the EMD headquarters. Saturday night, there also will be a concert by Rockola at Sala Mariscal.
Guided Tours and Excursions
Coinciding with the Pirates and Corsairs Fair, the Barca Núria and the Nautilus have organized activities and guided tours aboard their boats. A visit to Meda Gran has also been organized, but tickets are already sold out.
There will also be a Market of artisan products throughout the weekend.
