Torroella de Montgrí celebrates until august 28th its local festivity (Festa Major de Sant Genís) with activities for everyone, with special emphasis on live music, popular culture and family activities.
The presentation of the festivity book and the ‘Correfocs’ (fire run parade) were the preview of the festivity official days which start on Thursday with the institutional ceremony of the Montgrí Medals. This awards recognizes the contribution of outstanding personalities to the community. On Thursday there will be a popular dinner.
Giants and family activities.
Popular Culture plays a very important role in Torroella’s ‘Festa Major’. There will be parades and dances of Giants on Thursday 24 at 5pm in Plaça de la Vila; Friday 25 from 10.15am with dance at 1pm in Plaça de la Vila; and Saturday 26 at 11am also with start in Plaça de la Vila.
Until Monday 28, there are a lot of family activities. From Thursday 24 there is an Amusement Fair next to Espai Ter. On Saturday 26 at 6.40pm there is a Circus Show in Pati de Can Quintana. Furthermore, on Sunday 27 at 11am people will enjoy a Cabaret Show in the Plaça dels Dolors. Sunday afternoon (7.30pm) Els Xetats will offer a family concert in ‘Barraques’. On the last day of the ‘Festa Major’, Monday 28, children will enjoy board games in Plaça Mestre Pere Rigau (5:30 p.m.). Afterwards, they can also have fun with a show by Albert Such (7 p.m.), on Passeig de la Església.
Night live and music
The ‘Barraques’ will once again be the epicenters of night life with a programmation of live concerts of different styles and genres starting at midnight. This year’s group are: Parrak, Esteso’s Combo, Milicians, Serial Killerz, Her Majesty, Agua Bendita, Mtines, Akobalts, Brams and Mitjanit.
On Saturday 26 at 12am, local associations have programmed an explosive vermouth.
In the musical program, there are also concerts by orchestras. The Montgrins and the Nova Blanes will perform on Saturday 25 and Sunday 27 at 7.30pm and 10.30pm.
Moreover, the Sardana will continue to occupy a relevant space in the program, with auditions on Friday 25 (1.30pm and 5.30pm), and Saturday 26 at 6 pm, in Plaça de la Vila.
On Saturday at 9.30pm, the Móndeveus Choir will offer the show ‘Before the day ends’ in Plaça de la Vila.
Another moment carachteristic of the ‘Festa Major’ is the night parade ‘La Nocturna’ wich will take place on sunday 27 from 10pm in 1 Octubre Street.
Theatre and sport complete the programmation of the ‘Festa Major’ with table tennis, chess and soccer competitions and a show called ‘El Tigre’ on monday 28 at 08.30 pm in the Espai Ter.
