Torroella de Montgrí
The church of Sant Genís, like others in the Empordà region, is unfinished and, as a result, the bell tower has no roof.
The first time a church is mentioned in Torroella de Montgrí is in 1209, although there must have been a Romanesque temple in the town before that.
At the beginning of the 15th century, the church was in very poor condition and the decision was made to build a much larger one. The construction took more than 400 years! Finally, the new church was inaugurated on 3 May 1609. Wars, pandemics and economic problems postponed the construction of the facade until two centuries later.
