Torroella de Montgrí and L’Estartit have been accredited as members of the Smart Tourist Destination program (DTI in its acronym in Spanish) of the State Society for the Management of Innovation and Tourist Technologies of the Spanish Government.
The DTI model is endorsed by international organizations such as the World Tourism Organization, the Inter-American Development Bank, the OECD, the European Commission and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). It is based on five issues and more than 200 requirements. The issues are: governance, innovation, technology, sustainability and accessibility.
Accessibility, strong point
Torroella de Montgrí and L’Estartit have obtained the best results in accessibility, technology and sustainability. This last area is well rated thanks to the effort to preserve and recover the environment, conserve heritage, promote the circular economy and manage tourism sustainability.
Entering the DTI program means that the tourist destination must follow some recommendations. For example, work on innovation management and governance and promote innovation.
In order to be considered a full Smart Tourist Destination, Torroella de Montgrí and L’Estartit must monitor tourist activity to gain a greater knowledge of demand, promote smart signage, launch an urban mobility plan or create an accessibility management body.
